Yves Bonnefoy critico d'arte: da Giacometti a Goya

The article aims to show the origin of Yves Bonnefoy's interest for art and then dwells on his critical approach to the works of two great modern artists, such as Giacometti and Goya. The first part deals with the artistic education of the French poet, particularly in reference to his "Italian" season. The second part of the essay concerns the friendship between Bonnefoy and Alberto Giacometti, which is examined through Bonnefoy's copious research on the Swiss artist ans especially through the great treatise "Alberto Giacometti. Biographie d'une oeuvre", whose chronological development and the psychoanalytic and esthetic matrix are highlighted. In the third part, the analysis concerns the picture of Goya, in particular Bonnefoy's treatise "Goya les peintures noires", in order to show, in the amazing works of the Spanish painter, the Western World's need, since the XVIIIth century, to throw over the aspiration to trascendency and, instead, adhere to finiteness. The conclusion suggests a link between the artistic paths of the two artists examined by Bonnefoy.
