Abstract:
Switched reluctance motors (SRMs) are suitable for drive systems with increased reliability. They are very tolerant of one of the most dangerous faults for any kind of electric machine, which is the windings partial inter-turn short circuit condition. FFT analysis of the source current can be used to diagnose the fault occurring in the SRM. In this paper it is shown that a partially shorted winding causes the appearance of diagnostic frequencies in the source current. The amplitudes of the diagnostic frequencies depend on the number of shorted coil turns. At the same time, the location of the fault has virtually no effect on the motor diagnostics.
