Short description:
(2025). Zwischen Erdkunde und Emergenz. Marcel Beyers "Erdkunde" als poetische Geophanie . Retrieved from https://hdl.handle.net/10446/314465
abstract:
The essay investigates the relationship between memory, geography, and writing in Marcel Beyer’s poetry collection "Erdkunde", showing how the poetic voice’s proximity to the objects and materials encountered during its journey through Eastern territories enables poiesis to reconfigure their geography. In places where the traces of the suffering inflicted on people and things by History have been effaced, and where their submergence in collective memory no longer allows any testimony of the past to emerge, the singular poiesis of contamination that informs the ductus succeeds in reconstructing an entirely new geography of these sites: a genuine geophany that ultimately unsettles even the distinctions between present and past, East and West.
