Cultura costituzionale e strategie democratiche a Milano dalle colonne del «Comune Italiano»

The chapter investigates the political culture circulating on the pages of one of the Milanese newspapers which were born to profit from the partial freedom of the press the Austrian Government temporarily allowed soon after the revolution of 1848. "Il Comune italiano" sympathized with the democratic wing of the national movement and was therefore highly exposed to government sanction. Nonetheless, its director adopted useful editorial strategies to disguise the paper's radical discourse, so being able to keep up for some time with the publication. The contents of the issues, here thoroughly examined, show a notably mature and detailed knowledge of the workings of a representative frame of Government and of the necessary constitutional safeguards.
