Analisi linguistica in chiave contrastiva delle 'versioni' russa e italiana dell'Accordo TRIPs: terminologia, nominalizzazioni, modalità

This paper proposes a contrastive linguistic analysis of the Rus-sian and Italian ‘versions’ (or non-authentic translations) of the TRIPS Agreement. The investigation, which adopted a quali-quantitative ap-proach, focused on three levels of analysis. At the lexical level, the termi-nology was analysed, taking into account both terms that characterise the intellectual property discourse in particular and expressions that are typical of the legal discourse in general; the examples analysed highlight the tendencies of the Russian specialised lexicon with respect to the Italian one, and it can be noted that, at least in some cases, the Russian termino-logy seems to be characterised by greater variation and less specialisation. At the morphosyntactic level, nominalisations were investigated, which seem to be a more characteristic feature of Russian morphosyntax than of Italian, confirming the structural tendency of the Russian language towards the nominal style. Finally, at the level of verbal morphology, the modal operators of obligation and necessity, permission and prohibition were studied; at this level a great variability is found in both Russian and Italian. The paper intends to prove useful in the field of specialised legal translation for the Italian-Russian language pair, since contrastive studies in this field are still limited. Other possible applications can be found in lexicography and didactics.
