Abstract:
This contribution aims to reflect on the ongoing redevelopment project concerning the urban context of the Treviglio Centrale railway station hub. The initiatives currently underway—based on a study in which the authors were involved—seek to enhance the station’s role as a multimodal node. The project focuses on strengthening and integrating connections between pedestrian and cycling mobility and the station–public transport system, while also rationalizing spaces dedicated to private motorized transport. This approach enables a more efficient configuration of the public realm, designed to improve both comfort and safety for users, and is embedded within a broader strategy to enhance the centrality of the adjacent trade fair, industrial, and administrative district. The proposed interventions involve both station frontages and include the reinforcement of pedestrian and cycling links between the Centrale and Ovest stations, as part of an integrated vision for the urban mobility system. As such, the Treviglio station hub emerges as a challenging design laboratory, both in terms of structuring a multimodal transport system and in establishing itself as a highly accessible node within the regional context.
