abstract:
Financial systems of South America have experienced a recent history of deep transformation. External and internal forces have been interacting each other and participating to the definition of these systems' present frame. In order to give a clear description of their structure, the most important events concerning their development are here underlined, from the first Seventies deregulation policies to the middle of the Nineties. Moreover, two cases are specifically analysed: Argentina and Chile. They entered the international market almost together, but they followed different political patterns during the Eighties and the Nineties. Their parallel analysis helps to understand how such different systems could have been developed during the years.
