Theatre has always been considered, from ancient Greece to the present day, an important device to educate, train and teach which potentialities, manifested in various forms, have been repeatedly put at the centre of pedagogical debate. These many forms, taken place into formal, informal and non-formal italian contexts, would be investigate in this paper. Therefore, it would try to chart the various perspectives in which the theatre-school relationship developed from the second half of the Twentieth Century highlighting some of its most significant steps. Steps in which you breathe how theatre, done today in the school, is the result of a history of contradictions alternating between attraction and repulsion, envolvement and detachment, openings and closings. odi et amo, indeed.
