Abstract:
The contribution focuses the theme of the absolute poverty and the measures to fight it in a phase in which it is in discussion the sustainability of welfare state during the current economic crisis. After describing the phenomenon of the absolute poverty and the policies to combat implemented in Italy , the contribution faces critically the proposal to impose a burden to the beneficiaries of care services, framing the theme in the conception of the dignity elaborated by Dworkin. The aim is that of a “compatible” and “sustainable” Welfare State that sees an increased commitment of those members of the public that use it, who are now reduced to being merely passive consumers of services; it is on the terrain that the forces of civil society will be able most effectively to compensate for the shortcomings of the Italian model of the Welfare State.
