Scientific coordinator of the local Research Unit in the following PRIN projects:
- 1996- Formability in moulding processes- National scientific coordinator Prof. Paolo Bariani-University of Padova.
- 1998- Development of a software for the decisions support based on hybrid models- National scientific coordinator Prof. Agostino Villa – Politecnico of Torino (since the 4th February 2000, after being passed to the University of Bergamo, the Local scientific coordinator is Prof. Lucio Zavanella).
- 2000- Implementation by means of FEM codes of accurate models of the material rheology and of the separation and damage phenomena to improve the reliability of the machining simulation- National scientific coordinator Prof. Paolo Bariani- University of Padova.
- 2006- Workability of metal foam components with conventional technologies: machining and forming operations- National scientific coordinator Prof. Michele Monno- Politecnico of Milan.
- 2008- Realization of hydro-formed components filled with metal foams: feasibility studies, process optimization, characterization of the prototype- National scientific coordinator Prof. Michele Monno- Politecnico of Milan.
Member of the PRIN research program:
- 2002- Use of coordinate measure systems in the industrial field: characterization of the measurement uncertainty using masters- Scientific coordinator Prof. Raffaello Levi- Politecnico of Torino.
Scientific coordinator of the R&D program “REMS-Rete Lombarda di Eccellenza per la Meccanica Strumentale e Laboratorio Esteso” (Lombardy Region Excellence Network for the Metalworking Manufacture)financed by the “Found for the Institutional Agreement Promotion” of the Lombardy Region established with the D.G.R. n 5200 of the 2nd August 2007.
Scientific Chief of “Intellimech-Mechatronic Consortium”.
The main research fields deal with the manufacturing technologies issues.
Forming operations: model studies and implementation of the FEM codes to study the deformation process, application of the AI to the forming operations.
Machining operations: study of the tool wear, optimization of the tool source management, application of the AI to the machining operations.
Recently, the research activity is focused on the application of classical manufacturing methods for the machining of innovative materials. In particular, machining and forming processes have been applied to work metal foams.
Since 2005 the attention of the research group guided by G.M. have been focused on the microtechnologies field.
In 2005, thanks to the adoption of a SEM, micro-lithographic operations have been developed using an electron beam. Subsequently, using the LIGA technology also micro components were obtained. Furthermore, with the adoption of a micro-EDM and a polymer microinjection moulding machines, an optimization of the process parameters was carried out, in particular for the realization of microdrilling on different conductive materials.
Recently, a study for the realization of polymer micro components by means of microinjection moulding, have been started.
