Curriculum Vitae
Giovanna Barigozzi is Full Professor of Fluid Machines and Energy Systems at the Department of Engineering and applied science of the University of Bergamo. She graduated in Mechanical Engineering with honours from the University of Genoa in 1992 and received her PhD in Fluid Machinery from the same University in 1996. She obtained the Diploma Course in Turbomachinery at the von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics (Belgium) with distinction. From February 2016 to October 2018, she was President of the Joint Committee of Students and Professors (CPDS) of the School of Engineering of the University of Bergamo. Member of the Doctoral Board in Sustainable Technology for Industrial and Construction Engineering. She coordinates the Energy Systems and Turbomachinery Laboratory (EST Lab).
From 2018 to 2024 she was Haed of the Department of Engineering and Applied Sciences and Member of the Academic Senate.
From october 2024 she is Deputy Rector for Innovation and Digital Transition, dealing, among other things, with issues related to the ethical and informed use of Artificial Intelligence in academia and administrative processes.
Her research activity focuses on the thermo-fluid dynamic analysis of the film cooling of gas turbine blades, vanes and endwalls in wind tunnels and on the modelling of power generation plants. Of particular relevance are the studies carried out in collaboration with Korea University, aimed at the numerical and experimental analysis of innovative cooling systems which, within the framework of an MSCA post-doctoral fellowship, involve the use of Artificial Intelligence for the optimization of cooling geometries. In the field of energy conversion system modelling, the research activities range from Renewable Energy Communities, to the analysis of waste-to-energy and waste-recycling plants—both from an energy and environmental perspective—to district heating systems. Further research is conducted on the experimental analysis of self-ventilated brake discs and on the study of hydrogen compression, storage, and distribution systems.
Giovanna Barigozzi is the author of over 130 publications in international scientific journals and proceedings of international and national conferences, and is Associate Editor of the ASME Journal of Turbomachinery and Member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Turbomachinery Propulsion and Power. She coordinates the Honors& Awards sub-committee of ASME Heat Transfer Committee for 2024-2026.
