GAIARDELLI Paolo

Full Professor and senior researcher of CELS, the Research Group on Industrial Systems Engineering, Logistics and Service Operations of the Department of Management, Information and Production Engineering, he holds courses in Lean manufacturing, Management and organisation of industrial plants and Advanced Production Systems. He also lectures in post-graduate Master's courses offered by SdM - the School of Management of the University of Bergamo (SdM), Polimi Graduate School of Management and University of Eastern Piedmont. Supervisor of many thesis and internship projects, he also collaborates with the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts as expert in the evaluation of bachelor and master projects. He is Director of the Master Course in “Tecnologie e processi della filiera tessile” offered by SdM, and Deputy Director of the Master Course in "Servitization" a joint initiative promoted by the University of Eastern Piedmont and SdM. Associate Editor of Production Planning and Control, and Editorial Advisory Board member of International Journal of lean Six Sigma he has authored over 100 publications in leading journals, international conferences and books, and have taken part in several national and international research projects.
Coordinator and member of the PhD programme in Technology, Innovation and Management (TIM), promoted by the University of Bergamo and the University of Naples "Federico II".
Vice-chair Europe of the IFIP Working Group 5.7 | Advances in Production Management Systems and coordinator of the Special Interest Group (SIG) in Service Systems Design, Engineering and Management. Member of AIDI the Italian Association of Professors in Industrial Systems Engineering and ASAP Service Management Forum, an Interdepartmental Research Centre on Innovation and Service Management in Industrial Enterprises.
Research activities mainly focus on the management and organisation of production systems according to the principles of lean manufacturing, and on the engineering and management of services in manufacturing contexts, with particular interest in the automotive and heavy commercial vehicle sectors. More recently, research interests have extended to exploring the relationships between lean management principles, environmental and social sustainability, digitalisation, and servitisation. In relation to the latter area, research focuses on the adoption of lean thinking paradigms to support the design, development, and management of product–service systems.
