Curriculum Vitae
Andrea Vitali is an Associate Professor at the University of Bergamo, in the Department of Management, Information, and Production Engineering. His research focuses on 3D modeling of customized products in industrial and medical fields, Artificial Intelligence applied to medical imaging, motion capture systems for rehabilitation, telemedicine, and applications of eXtended Reality and Digital Human Modeling for ergonomics, safety, and medical training. His research activities are carried out within regional, national, and international projects.
He is the author of over 100 publications, including articles in indexed international journals (The Lancet - Regional Health Europe, Journal of Computing and Information Science in Engineering, Computer Methods and Programs in Biomedicine) and book chapters. He is often the lead or corresponding author. He has participated as a lecturer and invited speaker in Blended Intensive Programs, Summer Schools, and Erasmus+ programs with international institutions such as Riga Technical University, Ort Braude College, Lapland University of Applied Sciences, and Technikum Wien.
In teaching, he leads undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral courses in Italian and English, including Virtual Reality Lab, Rehabilitation Lab, Prosthesis and Rehabilitation, and 3D Printing for Medical Applications. He supervises numerous theses that have resulted in international publications and awards.
International recognitions include:
- 3rd prize at Innovact 2013 (Reims) for “Virtual Socket Design,”
- ASME/CIE 2013 Travel Award for poster competition in Portland (USA),
- Best Paper Award at ICIDM 2016 (Auckland),
- Most Distinguished Paper at ICoRD 2017 (India),
- Honorable Mention from the Italian Spinal Cord Society 2018 (Florence),
- 2020 VES Technical Committee Leadership Award from ASME CIE,
- Reviewer of the Month (September 2024) for the journal mHealth (Q2, Impact Factor 2.2).
