Professor Dr. rer. oec. Norifumi Kawai has been an Associate Professor in the Department of Management in the University of Bergamo since 2021. In the past, He worked for various academic institutions around the globe, including the Universität Duisburg-Essen (Germany), Universität Tübingen (Germany), the University of Sussex (UK), the University of Pavia (Italy), and Sophia University (Japan).
Education: Ph.D with the highest honors (summa cum laude) in Managerial Economics at Universität Duisburg-Essen (2010), Master’s Degree in International Political Economy at University of Pittsburgh (2003), Graduate Certificate of Advanced Studies in West European Studies from the European Union Center of Excellence (EUCE) at the University of Pittsburgh.
Research interests: His scientific research focuses mainly on global strategy, international human resource management, entrepreneurship, & corporate governance.
His research appeared in international journals, such as Journal of World Business, British Journal of Management, International Business Review, International Journal of Human Resource Management, European Management Journal, Journal of Management & Organization, Personnel Review, International Entrepreneurship & Management Journal, and so forth.
He has been an editorial review board member in International Business Review (Netherlands: Elsevier) since 2021 and an editorial board member in International Studies of Management & Organization (UK: Taylor & Francis) since 2017.
He won the 2015 Best Paper Award of the Academy of Multinational Enterprises (Japan) and the 2018 Emerald Literati Award for Excellence (UK). He has been a recipient of various grants from the Kölner Gymnasial- und Stiftungsfonds (2006, 2007), the All Japan Bank Academic Research Promotion Foundation (2013, 2015, 2022), and Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (2016, 2019, 2020).
He was well-recognized as the recipient of the Best Lecturer Award for 2012-2013, the Award for Outstanding Contribution to Student Experience for 2014-15, and the Award for Outstanding Support for the Learning Experience of Students for 2014-15 in the University of Sussex. He was also a winner of the Excellence in Teaching Awards 2015 (Outstanding & Innovative Undergraduate Teaching) in the University of Sussex in the United Kingdom. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) in the UK.
He is fluent in Japanese (native), English, and German (C2 Zentrale Oberstufenprüfung).
