Syllabus

Course Objectives

At the end of the module, students will acquire the basic knowledge necessary for the educational use of artistic and media objects such as photography, cinema, television series and new digital media in educational contexts, considering them as facilitators of creative expression. They will thus acquire the specific language that each visual and media art implies, considering its history, artistic value, technological implications, communicative potentials and cognitive and emotional implications. The module thus produces several skills that can be used in pre-school and primary schools: knowledge of media products oriented to children (films, animated and non-animated TV series, virtual reality experiences); familiarity with the digital context in which the visual arts are nowadays used and enjoyed; the necessary preparation to identify the child's previous visual and media skills and accompany them towards the development of a personal and active approach; the ability to design programs to start the exercise of creativity through the experimentation of multimedia visual languages integrated with other disciplines. Special attention will be paid to the acquisition of educational models that use visual media to design interventions aimed at inclusivity. In this perspective, workshops will design a learning unit aimed at encouraging children’s active contact with visual and media arts, the exploration of their expressive and creative possibilities, the acquisition of a critical and personal aesthetic sense.

Course Prerequisites

None

Teaching Methods

Lectures with frequent use of audiovisual content, integrated with moments of class discussion of the topics covered in a constant comparison with the experiences faced by students in the context of internships. Students are therefore required to participate in a dialogical and active manner, which in the laboratories will culminate in group work aimed at the production of learning units supervised by the teacher.

Assessment Methods

Written examination consisting of 3 open questions to be answered in 90 minutes. The evaluation of the Modern and Contemporary Arts module, combined with that of the other modules, will generate the final evaluation of the Arts and Body Art course, which will be registered by the professor in charge of the integrated teaching activity.
