Syllabus

Course Objectives

To acquire instruments for reading, analyzing
and writing literary works; familiarity with production setting and circulation of literary works in the 20th century.

Course Prerequisites

Familiarity with Italian literature and basic skills of narrative text analysis at the level of the secondary school curriculum.

Teaching Methods

Lectures, seminars and tutorials, Moodle.

Assessment Methods

Verification interview on knowledge, reading skills and the capacity for cultural and historical contextualization.

Oral exam. There could be a final written test at the end of the course for regular attenders.
The criteria of evaluation give credit to:
1) a critical reading of the primary texts and a knowledge of their literary and cultural background;
2) an autonomous discussion and application of the methodologies acquired in lessons.

The written test includes questions to verify the students' capacity to apply the critical tools acquired in the course to a text included in the syllabus.

Contents

The purpose of the course is the image of the city in contemporary Italian literature, with special reference to those authors who have described urban settings as a catalyst of the senses. The course will deal with the following topics in literary theory and methodology: philosophical and aesthetic innovations and strategies of representation in contemporary fiction.
