Overview

Date/time interval

Primo Semestre (22/09/2025 - 19/12/2025)

Syllabus

Course Objectives

1) Disciplinary objectives (official course held by Prof. Gabriella Carobbio)

Knowledge and identification of linguistic actions and strategies of knowledge transfer used in museum communication. Analysis will be conducted also from a comparative perspective (German-Italian) by means of parallel texts.

2) Instrumental objectives (language courses/AAL)

At the end of the course, students will also have acquired, deepened and improved their competence in the four communicative skills of the European Framework of Reference: at C1+ level (writing and oral production) and at C2 level (oral and written comprehension). To this end, it is essential (although not formally compulsory) to attend the dedicated language learning activities (AAL).

Course Prerequisites

Knowledge of the German language equivalent to level C1 of the European Framework of Reference (CEFR).

For students of the MA in Modern Languages for International Communication and Cooperation to take this exam, it is mandatory to have passed the exam Lingua tedesca LMI Sprachwissenschaft und Übersetzung (cod. 28072).

Teaching Methods

1) With regard to disciplinary skills (German linguistics course held by the lecturer):

Lectures in German; oral presentations by participants, empirical work and group discussions.

All links and materials used during the course will be progressively made available on the e-learning platform (Moodle).

2) As regards instrumental skills (exercises/AAL), please consult the section of the website dedicated to the University Language Centre > German – LLCS: https://www.unibg.it/studiare/frequentare/apprendimento-linguistico/tedesco/tedesco-llcs

Assessment Methods

LANGUAGE SKILLS

To take the LM II A German language course examination, you must first pass the following written language proficiency examinations (AAL):

(a) written expression

and

b) Translation

Students must take both the written expression and translation tests in a single exam session when they take them for the first time. If the student passes only one of the two tests, they can retake the second test in subsequent exam sessions. The two tests must be completed within 18 months of passing the first partial test.

COURSE OF GERMAN LINGUISTICS HELD BY PROF. Gabriella Carobbio

For attending students: The evaluation of the official German language course LM II A results from the evaluation of a Referat to be given during the course and from a an oral discussion with the lecturer about the outcomes of the Referat.

For non-attending students, the assessment of the official German language course LM II A consists of an oral exam about the course topics, especially theoretical and empirical aspects of the analysis of museum communication.

ASSESSMENT

The assessment will take into account the level of acquisition of the knowledge and skills required for the course, in particular linguistic correctness (lexical, morphosyntactic, pragmatic and phonological), terminological accuracy, appropriateness to the task at hand and mastery of the tools of linguistic analysis and reflection.

The examination relating to language skills (AAL, written expression and translation) accounts for one third of the final grade (33.3%). The average of the exam mark for the course taught by Professor Carobbio and the exam mark for the German Language LM II B course taught by Professor Moroni counts for two thirds of the final grade (66.6%).

Grades are in thirtieths according to the following bands:

Excellent (30 cum laude) - Knowledge and skills fully acquired and applied with precision, effectiveness and autonomy. No errors.

Very good (30-27) - Very sound knowledge and skills, applied correctly and with confidence. Minor and non-recurring errors.

Good (26-24) - Adequate knowledge and skills, with some uncertainty or imprecision. Errors present but not serious or systematic.

Sufficient (23-18) - Basic knowledge and skills acquired but applied partially or with evident errors. Sufficient general understanding.

Insufficient (less than 18) - Insufficient knowledge and skills not adequately developed. Numerous errors impairing the success of the task.

Contents

1) Disciplinary content (course in German linguistics held by Professor Gabriella Carobbio)

The course focuses on the main forms of written and oral museum communication. Starting with more traditional textual genres such as travel guides and audio-guides, we will then move on to the analysis of new, more interactive and digital formats, such as explanatory videos (Erklärvideos), reels and Google Arts&Culture webpages. Authentic materials from international museums will be used, also comparing - where available - different multilingual versions.

2) Language courses (AAL)

The contents of the language courses (AAL) at C1+ and C2 CEFR level are indicated in the section of the website dedicated to the University Language Centre > German – LLCS (https://www.unibg.it/studiare/frequentare/apprendimento-linguistico/tedesco/tedesco-llcs)
