Course Objectives
1) Disciplinary objectives (official course taught by the teacher
At the end of the course, the students will have acquired tools for understanding and analyzing French language used in specialized contexts.
2) Instrumental objectives (exercises/AAL)
The students will also have deepened and improved their competence in the four communication skills of the Common European Framework of Reference at C1+/C2 level.
Course Prerequisites
Knowledge of French language equal to level C1+ of the European Framework of Reference (CEFR).
Propaedeuticity: for students who are attendin French Language LM2, the passing of the examination in French Language LM 1 is
compulsory before taking this examination.
Teaching Methods
1) Regarding disciplinary skills (official course taught by the teacher): teaching will be conducted through lectures, with the aid of multimedia tools and will foster constant dialogue and discussion with the class group. Individual or group work that contributes to the final assessment may possibly be required.

Assessment Methods
The examination consists of 2 parts:
Communication skills: To be admitted to the oral examination, students must have passed each of the written or oral tests to verify their level of competence (see Learning objectives). The tests are organised as follows: 1) Thème (translation from Italian into French); 2) Notes de synthèse. The final examination mark is calculated on the basis of the oral interview assessment for the two modules that make up the course. The achievement of the required level of communicative competence (C1+/C2) contributes to the grade.
Disciplinary skills: the examination mode will consist of an oral interview. Those who have taken the course are asked to present and present at the oral interview a thematic dossier in the specialized domains covered in class, or their choice. Namely, students will select 1 macro-domain (e.g. law, economics, pharmacology, etc.) and multiple texts to contextualise the terms for which a terminology sheet will be created as per the criteria seen in the lecture. The terms (as well as the texts) will be chosen from the corpus built with BootCat and analysed with SketchEngine. The questions will focus on the examination programme, the chosen domain, the criteria for selecting the terms and the construction of the term sheets.The presentation of the project will follow the analysis grid provided during the course. Individual or group work that contributes to the final assessment may be required. Non-attending students will be quizzed on the relevant literature.
Evaluation criteria
The assessment will take into account the level of acquisition of the knowledge and skills required for the course, in particular, linguistic correctness (lexical, morphosyntactic, pragmatic and phonological), terminological accuracy, the terminological accuracy, appropriateness to the required task and mastery of the tools of linguistic analysis and reflection.
AAL tests count for one-third of the final grade. The oral examination grade, given by the average of the grade achieved in Module A and Module B, counts for two-thirds of the final grade.
Grades are given in thirtieths according to the following bands:
Excellent (30 cum laude) - Knowledge and skills fully acquired and applied with
precision, effectiveness and autonomy. No errors.
Very good (30-27) - Knowledge and skills very sound, applied correctly and with
confidence. Minor and non-recurring errors.
Good (26-24) - Adequate knowledge and skills, with some uncertainty or imprecision.
Errors present but not serious or systematic.
Sufficient (23-18) - Basic knowledge and skills acquired but applied partially or
with evident errors. Sufficient general understanding.
Insufficient (less than 18) - Insufficient knowledge and skills not adequately developed.
Numerous errors detracting from the success of the task.
Contents
1) Disciplinary content (official course taught by lecturer)
Module B : Elements of translation and specialized communication. This course, delivered in French, will take place in the second semester and will focus on the analysis of specialized texts drawn from a selection of specialized domains (law, business, marketing). The course will address topics such as terminological unity, terminological variation, 'maison' terminology, the terminology card and its fields, semantic slips, and terminological metaphors from a French-Italian contrastive perspective. In particular, terminological contents in international repertories (by way of example FRANCETERME, BELTERME, GDT, TERMDAT) will be analyzed, in multilingual perspective (FR-IT-EN) and possible ideological elements. The approach taken is onomasiological, interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary.

As indicated in the assessment procedures, access to the oral examination is subject to passing all the tests of communicative competence in French.
