Syllabus

Course Objectives

The course has as a main objective that of preparing students to the understanding of the main issues in entrepreneurship. After completing the module students will have a deep knowledge of the dynamics of the entrepreneurial process. They will be able to understand the factors that promote the success of a business project, to recognize and exploit a business opportunity, and to develop an effective business model. The student will also have a thorough knowledge of private equity, its functioning, its spread, and its success factors. Attending students will be also able to develop a business plan.

Teaching Methods

The course adopts a learning method based on the interaction between students, and between students and instructors. It thus stimulate creativity and critical thinking.
In line with the course schedule, lecturers will organize in group-case studies to be solved by groups of students composed by no more than six individuals. They will also arrange special seminars held by entrepreneurs.
Attending students will also have the opportunity to take part to the development of a business idea and to the completion of a business plan (in group).

Assessment Methods

The assessment of learning can be carried out through a written or oral examination at the discretion of the instructor, depending on the number of enrolled students:

The written examination will consist of open-ended questions, all of equal value. To pass the examination, a minimum score of 18 is required.

The oral examination will be conducted through an interview, where at least three open-ended questions will be asked about concepts and their application to real-life cases.

For attending students, the final grade will include the evaluation received for the completed exercises.

Contents

The course of "entrepreneurship and private equity" will pay special attention to the following issues:
- Analysis of the entrepreneur, its characteristics and its relationship with the company.
- Description of the Italian business environment and the propensity for entrepreneurship;
- Analysis of external actors contractors (incubators and private equity).
Specific lessons will be dedicated to the topic of the impacts of digitization and technological transition. In particular, we will analyze how the rapid digitalization of the economy and the approach to digital entrepreneurship facilitate a transition from traditional business models to networked and integrated digital platform business models.
