Syllabus

Course Objectives

The laboratory aims to develop theoretical and practical skills in the field of vibration analysis of mechanical systems, with a particular focus on damage detection and localization. Students will acquire the fundamental notions related to model updating based on experimental data and to the identification of structural alterations. The course will also include the application of risk assessment techniques, Monte Carlo simulations and the use of instrumentation for vibration monitoring and analysis.


Course Prerequisites

Basic knowledge on statistic and probability

Basic knowledge of continuum mechanics (internal actions, bending moment, axial action...)


Teaching Methods

Numerical and experimental laboratory experiences, frontal lessons.


Assessment Methods

The exam consists of a multiple choice test on the course contents and the presentation of the laboratory experiences. The mark is out of thirty .


Contents

The course is divided into two modules: the first is dedicated to the risk analysis and safety of mechanical systems, with the use of numerical simulations (for example, the Monte Carlo method); the second, of a laboratory type, focuses on the practical application of the concepts to a steel frame system, both intact and damaged.
