The course consists of lectures combined with the discussion of practical cases and examples from social research. Active and critical student participation is strongly encouraged and highly valued.
The assessment is structured as follows:
The written examination consists of multiple-choice questions, completion tasks, and open-ended questions. Assessment criteria include the relevance of responses, understanding of course content, argumentative skills, and accuracy and clarity of written expression. Responses that are not clearly legible will not be graded.
The final grade is awarded on a 30-point scale.
The course covers the major authors and central themes of sociology, spanning classical, modern, and contemporary perspectives. Particular focus will be placed on the concepts of community and society, culture, belonging and difference, the global and the local, and risk. These themes will be analysed in relation to both classical sociological theory and contemporary processes of social change.
1) There is no distinction in the course programme between attending and non-attending students.
2) Following the written assessment, the instructor may require an additional oral examination, where deemed necessary, to verify the achievement of the course learning outcomes and to ensure the accurate assessment of student performance.
