Overview

Date/time interval

Secondo Semestre (16/02/2026 - 29/05/2026)

Syllabus

Course Objectives

At the end of the training module the student has: a) a thorough knowledge of the main psychodynamic concepts and their historical development, from Freud to contemporary psychoanalytic perspectives; b) the ability to interpret and understand subjective phenomena through the main psychodynamic models; c) the ability to plan psychological interventions in individual, organizational, and social professional contexts, based on a psychodynamic understanding of subjectivity.

Course Prerequisites

Basic knowledge in Psychodynamics, Clinical Psychology, and Psychopathology.

Teaching Methods

The training module consists of classes conducted in a dialogical and experiential way: students will be proposed to actively partecipate through discussions of clinical cases, video material, and excerpts from original writings of the authors, an intersubjective comparison with their own experience of the subjective phenomena examined, and applications of the psychodynamic models and concepts to specific contexts.

Assessment Methods

Assessment of the objectives achievement is conducted through an oral examination, which provides a final mark (max 30/30 cum laude, pass 18/30). The test is unique for the two modules of which the course is composed and aims to assess understanding of the main psychodynamic concepts, the ability to use them for informed professional positioning and the competence to intervene in professional contexts on the basis of a psychodynamic understanding of subjectivity.

Contents

Comparative analysis of the main psychoanalytic models (Freudian metapsychology, ego psychology, object relations theory, self psychology, interpersonal, intersubjective, and relational psychoanalysis) in terms of epistemologies, theories of mind, methods and techniques of intervention.

Study in a relational perspective of the classic and recent psychodynamic concepts of unconscious, dissociation, drive, emotion schema, defense, conflict, narcissism, transference, self, relational matrix, motivation, mentalization, and epistemic trust.

Exploration of the applicative utility of psychodynamic models and concepts for clinical intervention in the contexts of individual, social and organizational intervention.
