At the end of the course, the student has the ability to use the Italian language effectively in the areas that characterize the course of Communication Sciences, especially as regards the ability to understand and summarize texts for specific purposes within the curricula of the course, an ability which is also useful to enhance the skill to study at university level.
Sound linguistic and communicative knowledge of the Italian language.
The teaching activity will consist of lectures, carried out with the help of powerpoint slides which will be uploaded to the e-learning area of the course.Theoretical reflections will alternate with practical activities during which exercises related to the topics covered in the course will be commented.
Practical sessions and e-learning tutorials will accompany the lectures.
Computerized written assessment.
The exam includes a 70-minute computerized test divided into two parts. To pass the test, both parts must be sufficient. The first part includes exercises on vocabulary, punctuation, spelling, use of connectives, socio-pragmatic competence; the second part consists of a short summary (of about 100/120 words) of a specialized text in which the skills of synthesis and clarity of exposition are assessed. The final assessment implies an “idoneo” or “non idoneo” evaluation.
The course focuses on the acquisition of knowledge and skills for an effective use of written Italian within the university context.
The contents of the course will therefore focus on theoretical notions regarding
• the constitutive characteristics of a written text;
• the varieties of the linguistic repertoire (eg differences between oral and written varieties, formal registers, specialized lexicon);
• the types of textual genres;
• the fundamental properties of the texts (textual coherence and cohesion).
Then issues will be addressed in order to encourage the development of skills for
• the reading process and the use of different reading strategies in specialized texts related to the course of study (especially with reference to analytical / active reading and study reading);
• the process of writing formal texts, in particular the brief summary, in reference to phenomena such as the identification of thematic units or nuclei, the use of elements of connection between sentences and paragraphs (linking words), of punctuation marks, of verbs, of the lexicon suitable for the purpose, of the forms of reference in the text.
Foreign students who do not yet have an advanced level of Italian are strongly encouraged to complement attendance of this course with participation in the free CIS Italian language courses (introductory course followed by semester-long courses) offered in the first semester.
