Teaching Methods

The course consists of lectures integrated with reading, analysis and interpretation of the texts, but also critical vision and analysis of images, movies and documentaries.

Particular attention will be dedicated to the discussion and dialogue with the students, who will be invited to make proposals for further discussions and deepening.

Assessment Methods

The exam consists of a written test aimed at assessing the knowledge and understanding of the texts.

The test consists of 3 open-ended questions concerning the exam bibliography. Time available for the examination: 90 minutes.

The final mark will take into consideration: depth of knowledge; coherence of the discursive articulation, and ability to express themselves appropriately; ability to develop a personal and critical point of view on the topics of the course.

Contents

The complexity is a general epistemic paradigm, but also a critical-regulatory perspective to conceive knowledge, cognition, culture and reality itself. The course will illustrate how the complexity, that is the irreducible interweaving of multiple dimensions, characterizes today the knowledge, the society, and the new human condition. For this reason, complexity defines a pedagogical paradigm, because pedagogy is the science that considers “formation” as the process of “giving form” (identity, structure and orientation) to ego, mind, culture, knowledge, and society.

Introducing the study of the theoretical, epistemological and methodological structures of pedagogical knowledge, the course aims to illustrate how the theories of complexity represent a productive paradigm for the educational sciences, as well as a crucial cultural approach to inhabit the contemporaneity.
