Lectures, engaging students into active participation. A wide range of relevant images, video, music and pop materials will be also part of the course.
Whether in TV series, movies, fashion, advertising, cars or pop music, representing the complexity – i.e. the narrative and age-defining character – of the present time implies addressing its serial and transmedia narratives. In this respect, the fundamental transmediality of nostalgia plays a key role. As the availability of digital perfection makes analogue imperfections precious, digital reproduction translates into regret for a lost aura; as creativity turns into an aesthetics of mashups, revivals and remakes, memories become a sepia revisitation of cosmetic time, and the present in turn becomes a form of stopped time which makes future a retro concept.
Lectures will take place in the first sub-period (end of September / early November 2025).
Books and materials, besides being available in the university library, may be acquired in online stores and local bookshops. Non-attending students will integrate the reading list with some extra materials. As logistic communication between teacher and students takes place by means of the e-learning area, students are required to enrol at the beginning of the course. Erasmus and PDP or PEI students are invited to contact the teacher at the beginning of the course.
