Syllabus

Course Objectives

At the end of the course, the student will be provide the knowledge of the peculiar features of
criminal law, especially its specific and protective nature which guides this subject, acquiring also the
awareness that an incisive perspective and a detailed study of the main foundations of the criminal
law are necessary.

Teaching Methods

The course will be held in the form of the traditional oral lecture, during which the students can converse,
ask questions, and ask for further in-depth analysis.
During the course, attendant students can participate in seminars and laboratories, whose topics are
strictly related to those subjects that attract interest from the student during the lessons.
Additionally, the students will be given case law material.

Assessment Methods

The final exam will be an oral examination. Students will be asked to demonstrate:
- to have learnt an appropriate scientific method for the study of the themes of the course unit;
- to be able to use a critical analysis in addressing the texts provided and the discussions developed
during classes (for those attending classes); attention will be given to the use of sources;
- to have developed the capacity to discuss the themes of the course unit with independent thinking,
appropriate language, ability to synthesize information and through a consistent discourse.

Contents

During the course, the Constitutional principles, typical of the criminal law, are analysed, especially the rule of law,
the principle of offensiveness, of guilt, as well as the main foundations of the general part of criminal law.
