Syllabus

Course Objectives

The teaching aims to ensure that students:
- learn the fundamental concepts, the main theories and the state of the art of what is relevant to the course;
- are able to elaborate, through individual study and with the help of texts, the topics covered by the lessons;
- develop adequate analytical and argumentation skills;
- are able to use an appropriate language in presenting problems and in their discussion;
- acquire awareness of the philosophical dimension of many public issues.

None

Teaching Methods

Frontal lessons. The discussion in the classroom will be strongly encouraged. Moments of debate will also be foreseen, conducted according to the didactic method of the debate.

Assessment Methods

The exam at the end of the course will take place in oral form and the evaluation will be expressed out of thirty. The interrogation will be structured in three questions concerning the entire program in order to verify the students' acquisition of the notions imparted within the course.

Contents

The course aims to analyze the legal-philosophical framework of the idea of justice and to discuss the contents of some public issues, of a bioethical nature and beyond, which straddle ethics and law, and which raise moral and justice problems. By way of example, questions such as the role and space of the welfare state, the relationship between ethics and the market, the relationship between merit and justice, gestation for others, the allocation of scarce medical resources (also, but not only, in pandemic situations).
