Contents

The course aims to move beyond the image of Kantian practical philosophy according to which it would unfold entirely within the boundaries of an abstract concept of duty. To this end, the course will proceed in two directions. The first will examine the relationship between morality and happiness, exploring the connections between practical philosophy and religion; the second will address the relationship between morality and law, seeking to clarify the relation between duty, law, and natural right. The two Kantian texts at the center of the course will be the Critique of Practical Reason and the Metaphysics of Morals, supplemented by a number of additional texts.
