Syllabus

Course Objectives

To understand the historical, cultural, social and, therefore, literary context of XXth and XXIst century.

Students will acquire the knowledge necessary to read literary texts, also in Spanish. The course aims to provide the ability to analyse and interpret the texts dealt with and set them into context.


Course Prerequisites

Students must have an A2 level knowledge of the Spanish language, acquired by attending the Spanish Language I course from the beginning of the first semester, which allows them to read and understand texts also in spanish.


Teaching Methods

Frontal lessons; projections of films. The course is held in Italian; the primary sources are in Spanish and the secondary ones in Spanish and Italian.


Assessment Methods

The exam at the end of the course will take place in written form, in Italian and the evaluation will beexpressed out of thirty. The exam will last 105 minutes, will be structured in 6/7 open questions concerningthe entire program in order to verify the acquisition by the students of what is taught during the course; one or two questions will deepen the historical, social and literary context, the others will delve into each of the works analyzed during the course and related bibliography. For all students what will be assessed is completeness of knowledge, correctness of exposition, critical capacity, ability to establish connections between the critical referencebibliography and primary sources.


Contents

The Spanish novel of the early Francoist period ("La familia de Pascual Duarte" by Camilo José Cela and "Nada" by Carmen Gaite); the novel for the recovery of historical memory from the beginning of the current century ("Soldados de Salamina" by Javier Cercas and "La voz dormida" by Dulce Chacón).
