Contents

The course offers an introduction to the fundamental concepts of urban design. Underlying the teaching is a way of understanding the city as a concrete built form, as a Stadtgestalt with a strong link to its history and with a specific meaning expressed in its complex composition of urban spaces and architectural volumes. Central aspects of teaching:

- The development of a differentiated understanding of the existing morphological structure (typology, urban space) through a focused analytical reading capable of confronting complex realities characterised by randomness, fragmentariness and stratification.

- The development of a formal concept, i.e. an interpretation of urban form as the basis for a complex and inclusive project for the transformation of the existing environment, which enhances the quality of the cultural and natural heritage.

The course also provides the fundamental tools for the analysis and representation of the design concepts developed
