Overview

Date/time interval

Secondo Semestre (17/02/2026 - 31/05/2026)

Syllabus

Course Objectives

At the end of the course, students have acquired a specific competence regarding semiotic theories of interpretation and a methodology of semiotic and narratological analysis of texts; these competences are central to the understanding of communication strategies.

Course Prerequisites

None.

Teaching Methods

Frontal lectures and, when necessary, slides in power point and videos. Students will be asked to play an active role in class discussions.

Assessment Methods

The exam is written. It lasts 60 minutes and consists of three open-ended questions, some of which are of a general nature, while others ask students to comment on a quotation, or to apply and/or exemplify a semiotic concept. Each answer is worth nine points, while the remaining three points assess the linguistic appropriateness and the consistency of the students' arguments.

Contents

Through the in-depth analysis of a selection of literary and audiovisual case studies, the course will focus on the ways in which a text may be interpreted, used, re-modelled and adapted to a variety of cultural settings, media contexts and semiotic environments.

Online Resources

  • E-learning
  • Leganto - Reading lists

More information
