Syllabus

Course Objectives

The student, at the end of the module, knows the relationships among the urban space, its differentiations, and the reciprocal influences with bodily practices.

The student will be able

- to contextualize the human movement on the frame of the active cities perspective that enhances active lifestyles through infrastructural, social, and educative interventions;

- to know the history and the theoretical and applicative perspectives.

Thanks to workshops, and field observations, the student will achieve competences

- on reading the urban spaces in relationship with the body and the human movement;

- on planning activities to favor bodily practices and active lifestyles.


Course Prerequisites

Preferably, to have attended the course Theories, methods, and didactics of human movement across the lifespan (158001) delivered at the I year of the Human Movement and Sport Sciences Degree Course


Teaching Methods

In the first part, the teaching activity is proposed through lectures including requests specifically formulated to enhance thoughtful processes.

In the second part, field observations of public spaces, using adequate tolls, will be carried out.

The third part will be organized through group works for the planning of public spaces in relation with bodily practices


Assessment Methods

The final exam is based on

- an oral test

- the possible presentation of group works.

For students attending the classes, ongoing tests could be organized.


Contents

The course is focused on active cities and will present the history, the cases, the current examples, and the future perspectives.

The daily physical activities and sport practices will be linked to the educational intentionality of the public spaces aimed at promoting human movement.

The attention will be focused

- on citizens’ groups frailer for independent mobility: children, elderly, disabled.

- on the practices of informal appropriation of the public spaces.

The course is organized in three parts: theoretical, observational, workshop.
