Overview

Date/time interval

Primo Semestre (22/09/2025 - 19/12/2025)

Syllabus

Course Objectives

This class purpose is to teach the basic concepts and competences essential to understand, set up and evaluate educational research projects. The core principles of this field of study will be covered with a specific attention to educators’ professional needs, both practical, cognitive and reflective. At the end of the course students will be able to master the basic concepts of educational research methodology, projects phases and main differences between quantitative and qualitative approach. And also students will be able to master the main methodologies, the main techniques of inquiry and intervention and the tools needed for collecting, coding and analyzing data.

Course Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of research methodologies and techniques

Teaching Methods

The teaching will have a strong laboratory imprint, which makes attendance more than appropriate. During the semester the theoretical proposals will be constantly accompanied by empirical research activities on and in educational facts, with possible synergies with the internship paths of the students.

Assessment Methods

The exam consists of an oral test on the contents of the course, both theoretical and practical. For those attending it is a discussion of the work done in the classroom and an oral test on some of the texts of the bibliography (agreed in class). For non-attending students, the oral exam focuses on the entire bibliography and can only be carried out after the delivery of a project work to be agreed with the teacher, which involves the implementation of a field survey campaign.

Contents

With an approach that integrates classroom teaching and laboratorial activities, and promotes the cooperative work between students and the peer evaluation of the various phases of work, we shall try to make the students experience the various phases of a research, from the identification of the research topic, the definition of the research question, the focus on the state of the art, the choice of hypotheses and indicators, the research design, up to the collection of data, their analysis and the appropriate restitution.
