The course aims to provide students with the knowledge and skills related to two distinct, yet increasingly interconnected, areas of contemporary legal practice: mastery of the conceptual categories of law and competence in the legal dimensions of technological innovation.
By the end of the course, students will have achieved the following learning objectives:
- knowledge of fundamental concepts in general theory of law;
- knowledge of key theoretical issues in legal informatics;
- insight into the ethical and legal challenges posed by artificial intelligence, and the ability to engage critically with current debates in the field;
- proficiency in the use of discipline-specific terminology.

The course is divided into two parts.
1. Essential concepts of the general theory of law, like, for example:
- definitions and conceptions of law;
- punishment;
- rule of law;
- from legislative State to constitutional State;
- provisions and norms;
- rules and principles;
- subjective rights and fundamental rights.
2. Digital technologies between legal regulation and ethical challenges, like, for example:
- law and digital technologies;
- data protection;
- digital citizenship education;
- social networks;
- artificial intelligence.
The syllabus is the same for both attending and non-attending students.
Erasmus students, as well as those with an Individualized Education Plan or a Personalized Learning Plan, are invited to contact the Professor.
