abstract:
Initial teacher education and teacher recruitment plays a crucial role in shaping a comprehensive education and training system for the young generations. In Italy, at the primary school level there is an increasing search for teaching candidate, with a shortage of teachers that seems to get worse more and more. The progressive and constant increase in recent years in the number of places available in the five-year courses of Primary Teacher Education confirm this growing need. The article, after recalling the context of the Italian situation and the main European models on the subject, through a comparison between comparative cases (in particular those of Finland and Ireland) aims to explicit some pedagogically suggestions that can contribute to the improvement of our system of initial teacher education and recruitment of teachers for primary school.
