abstract:
The work of Georg Kerschensteiner, philosopher of education and school reformer who inspired the German dual system of vocational education and training, has been never fully accepted among Italian scholars. This fact explains why in Italy a dual system of VET based on part-time school’s attendance and job experience through apprenticeship has not been established yet. The Italian educational culture has never shared Kerschensteiner’s fundamental idea: human being can be developed through professionally qualified work better than general education. The present article shows the invincible resistance of Italian pedagogy towards this principle. If this attitude won’t change, the spread of dual apprenticeship in Italy will be impossible.
