abstract:
Two years after the recognition of the Italian Sign Language (LIS) in our country (May 19th, 2021), the Department of Human and Social Sciences of the University of Bergamo, in the context of the University Call for Public Engagement initiatives 2023, dedicated an exhibition-conference "Signs of Art: sign languages between expression and participation" to the creative, expressive, and communicative potential of LIS. This paper, which closes the first year of activity of the column "Inclusion: school and surroundings", intends to present this initiative which arose as the result of a
research-training project conducted in collaboration with the “Giacomo and Pio Manzù” State Art School of Bergamo, the Scuola Audiofonetica of Brescia and the Ente Nazionale Deaf of Milan and aimed at promoting actions to support the school inclusion processes of deaf pupils and the qualification of the teaching staff on the sign languages.
