abstract:
In the transition from the 19th to the 20th century, Clarice Tartufari (1868-1933) proposes a literature that reflects the complexity of the female condition, recounting authentic heroines, who move between social emancipation and itineraries of selfeducation
and who are the mirror of a path towards the awareness and self-determination of an entire gender.
In particular, the author's gaze rests on the world of schooling and the teaching profession. In some autobiographical works and in two novels (Maestra
(1887) and Ebe (1902)), Tartufari investigates the complex processes of social and identity construction of teachers, providing an insight into the historical period but also a profound investigation into the female soul.
