Curriculum Vitae
Riccardo Fanciullacci is Associate Professor of Moral Philosophy (PHIL-03/A) at the Department of Letters, Philosophy and Communication, University of Bergamo. At the same institution he teaches Moral Philosophy, Ethics of Communication, Philosophy of History, and Ethics, Economy and Society. He is a member of the Joint Faculty–Student Committee and Internship Coordinator for the Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Philosophy. He also serves on the Doctoral Board of the PhD Programme in Humanistic and Transcultural Studies and is a member of the Technology Transfer Committee.
He is an Associate Member of the LIER-FYT research laboratory at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris, a member of the Interuniversity Centre for Studies on Ethics (CISE) based at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, and an external collaborator of the ARETAI Interuniversity Research Centre – Center on Virtues.
He is actively involved in editorial and scholarly activities. He co-directs the book series “Etica & Politica” (Mimesis) and is a member of the scientific boards of the series “Ethica” and “Italiana” (Orthotes), as well as of the series “New Philosophical Anthropology. Practices of Transformation and Contemporary Forms of Sensibility” (McGraw Hill). He has been a member of the Italian Society for Moral Philosophy since its foundation (2013) and serves on the scientific board of the journal Etica & Politica / Ethics & Politics, of which he was editor-in-chief for approximately a decade.
After completing his secondary education at the G. Chiabrera Classical High School in Savona, he graduated with honours in Philosophy from Ca’ Foscari University of Venice (2003), where he also obtained a PhD in Philosophy (with scholarship, 19th cycle, 2008), carrying out part of his doctoral research in Canterbury (UK). At the Department of Philosophy and Cultural Heritage of Ca’ Foscari University he subsequently held four postdoctoral research fellowships (2009; 2012; 2014–2015; 2016). He has held teaching appointments at the Université de Franche-Comté (Besançon) and at the Université Paris-Est Créteil (UPEC). He has participated—sometimes as co-organiser—in national and international research projects and in numerous international conferences and seminars in Italy and abroad.
He is the author of several books, including Volontà e assenso. L’impossibilità di decidere che cosa credere (Orthotes), L’esperienza etica. Per una filosofia delle cose umane (Orthotes), and Forme dell’agire. Ontologia sociale, conflitto e ideologia in un confronto con Louis Althusser (Orthotes). He has also published numerous articles on Iris Murdoch’s ethics, Bernard Stiegler’s philosophy of technology, sexual difference theory, psychoanalysis, ethical issues raised by consumer society, and Louis Althusser’s philosophy of history and society.
His current research interests focus on:
(i) the ethical challenges posed by the contemporary technological environment, with particular attention to generative artificial intelligence, addressed through an approach grounded in integral ecology (environmental, social, and mental);
(ii) the origins of philosophical ethics and the figure of Socrates;
(iii) the foundations of the ethics of communication, starting from the relationship between human and animal communication.
