Curriculum Vitae
Ada Valentini graduated in Foreign Languages and Literatures in 1986 at the University of Bergamo with a thesis entitled "Sprache und Geschlecht: Phenomena of Planning and Politeness in Spontaneous Spoken German" (grade: 110/110 with honors). She obtained her Ph.D. in Linguistics on April 22, 1992( University of Pavia).
After three years of research activities funded by various institutions, she started working as a researcher on December 1, 1997, and became an associate professor on October 1, 2017, in the field of L-LIN/01 Glottology and Linguistics at the University of Bergamo.
Her teaching activity began in the academic year 1987-1988 and continued until the academic year 1992-1993 with various seminar assignments. From the academic year 1996-1997 onwards, she held the position of full-time lecturer for approximately 50 editions of different courses, including: Teaching of Modern Foreign Languages, General Linguistics, Pragmatics, Intercultural Pragmatics, Anthropological Linguistics, Methods of Linguistic Analysis, Sociolinguistics, Corpus Linguistics, and Language Acquisition Linguistics.
Her scientific activity has primarily focused on the following research areas:
a) Language acquisition has been the main focus of her scientific investigation. Within this domain, she has published the highest number of articles and two monographs. Her work primarily delves into the acquisition of Italian as a second language by learners with different mother tongues (Wu Chinese, Tigrinya, English, and German) within a typological-functional framework.
b) Her sociolinguistic interests have mainly been directed towards varieties of language and the sociology of language, particularly concerning immigrant languages in Italy.
c) Information structure has been investigated concerning the phenomenon of cleft sentences in various linguistic systems: Bergamasco dialect, contemporary and ancient Italian, and English.
