Curriculum Vitae

Attà Negri is married and the father of two girls. He lives in Milan, where he was born (1978), the youngest of nine children. After completing High School leaving qualification in classical studies, he enrolled in the Faculty of Psychology at the Catholic University of Milan and graduated with honors in 2002 with a thesis on psychotherapy research supervised by Prof. Gherardo Amadei.

He continued his clinical and research training by winning a three-year scholarship to attend the PhD program in Clinical Psychology at the University of Milano-Bicocca and enrolling in the Specialization Course in Psychotherapy at the Milan branch of the Italian Society of Relationship Psychoanalysis (Società Italiana di Psicoanalisi della Relazione).

Registered with the Order of Italian Psychologists since 2004 and on the list of psychotherapists since 2012, he has worked as a consulting psychologist at the Medical Psychology, Psychodiagnostics, and Psychotherapy Service of the S. Carlo Clinic in Paderno Dugnano (MI) and at the Clinical Psychology Service of the ASST Papa Giovanni XXIII – Bergamo Hospital. From 2013 to 2017, he was Vice President of the Italian Society of Relational Psychoanalysis (Società Italiana di Psicoanalisi della Relazione). Since 2024, he has been President of the Association “Medici e Psicologi insieme ETS” (medicoepsicologoinsieme.org).

After obtaining his PhD in Clinical Psychology in 2007, he won a grant at the University of Bergamo in the same year, conducting research on the connection between personal meaning universes and psychopathology. Since December 2008, he has been working at the same university, first as a researcher and then as an associate professor in Dynamic Psychology. In 2025, he obtained national scientific qualification as a full professor in the disciplinary sector PSIC-04/A – Dynamic Psychology.

He has been teaching since 2003 in the Bachelor's and Master’s Degree Programs in Psychological Sciences and Clinical Psychology at the Department of Human and Social Sciences of the University of Bergamo, where he currently teaches Psychodiagnostic Methods and Techniques, Psychodiagnostic Techniques, and Dynamic Psychology of Social Relations. Since 2019, he has been Director of the Advanced Course in Learning Disorders and Well-being in School Contexts at the SdM – School of Advanced Education at the University of Bergamo. He also teaches at the School of Specialization in Health Psychology at the University of Bergamo and at several other Italian schools specializing in psychotherapy. For the Department of Human and Social Sciences at the University of Bergamo, he was the delegate for ongoing guidance and internships and is currently the delegate for knowledge transfer activities.

He has coordinated and participated in several research projects funded by national institutions; he collaborates with various international institutions such as: New York Psychoanalytic Society and Institute (NYPSI), Therapeutic Assessment Institute (Austin), University of Denver, Yale University (New Haven), Pennsylvania State University. Since 2012, he has been part of the Referential Process Research Group led by Wilma Bucci (referentialprocess.org) and is the creator of the Discourse Attributed Analysis Program Lab, (DAAPLab; daaplab.org), an application based on Artificial Intelligence that allows psychotherapy sessions to be transcribed automatically and their progress to be visualized in terms of linguistic style, for research, clinical monitoring, and supervision purposes.

His main research interests concern: a) therapeutic assessment and relational diagnosis, b) emotional communication and therapeutic change c) the connection between epistemology, theories of mind, and diagnostic/psychotherapeutic techniques, d) the link between psychopathologies, relational contexts, linguistic style, and emotions, e) the evaluation of psychotherapies with particular reference to the constructs of positioning, referential process, and reflective function, f) intersubjective and relational psychoanalysis.

He is the author of several scientific publications in international journals and co-author of various books, including “Interpersonal Q-Sort (IQS) e Digital Assessment Profile (DAP)” (2018), “Medici di Medicina Generale e Psicologi lavorano insieme” (2022) e “Disturbi specifici (della relazione) di apprendimento” (2023). He is Associate Editor of the journal “Ricerca Psicoanalitica, the Journal of the Relationship in Psychoanalysis” and reviewer for several international journals of clinical psychology and psychotherapy.
