He graduated in Mechanical Engineering from the Polytechnic of Milan with top marks on 27 April 1991, discussing a thesis in robotics. He subsequently won a place for the VII cycle of the PhD in Mechanics Applied to Machines at the Polytechnic of Milan. In 1994, he became a researcher at the Polytechnic of Milan. In November 2007, he transferred his activities as an associate professor to the University of Bergamo's Faculty of Engineering.
The research activity mainly concerns robotic systems, both serial and parallel kinematics, electric, hydraulic and pneumatic drive systems. In these sectors, he deals with defining dynamic and kinematic models and control systems capable of optimising the system's dynamic performance.
The research activity also has a transfer technology output as consultancy activities for designing and managing test machinery and automatic assembly machines. He carries out research activities both at a theoretical-numerical level and at an experimental level to best highlight how the synergies of the transversal disciplines of mechatronics contribute to optimising the dynamic performance of the systems.
He is the director of the Mechatronics Laboratory of the University of Bergamo located at Kilometrorosso, where he conducts experimental research and teaching activities.
He is the principal founder of the university spin-off Mechatronics and Dynamic Devices, which deals with designing and developing innovative devices in various sectors, such as the medical and food sectors.
