Overview

Date/time interval

Secondo Semestre (23/02/2026 - 06/06/2026)

Syllabus

Course Objectives

The course has the main goal to offer to the students the awareness on the issues linked to applied acoustics. Focus on building-acoustics, architectural- acoustics and noise control/noise measurement for industry.

Course Prerequisites

Knowledge of the subjects of the course Technical Physics and Physics

Teaching Methods

Teaching will take place mainly through lectures with a special attention to a direct interaction with students, which will have the possibility to propose deepening of some subject and to debate on them.
Within the course, practical exercises will be solved concerning the design load for heating and cooling, energy performance of buildings in standard conditions and energetic refurbishment of building components finalized to provide students with a critical capacity on these subjects.

Assessment Methods

Verification of learning takes place through an applied acoustics project assigned by the teacher. Students are admitted to the subsequent oral interview only if a score of at least 16/30 is achieved in the project.

Contents

Part I. Fundamentals of acoustics.
Part II. Introduction to acoustic measurements
Part III. Current legislation
Part IV. Focus on Building Acoustics (Sound insulation and fitting noise control)
Part V. Focus on Architectural Acoustics (Sound Absorption, Room correction)
Part VI. Focus on noise control for industry (external noise toward the neighborhood and internal noise toward the workers)
