After completing the course the student knows in a satisfactory way the general problems and individual aspects of the history of literature. He can understand and translate literary works and critical essays in their original language, has acquired the basic theoretical knowledge necessary in order to start the critical interpretation of their content and is able to comment and explain texts, especially by comparing different works of the same genre.
Successful completion of Spanish Language I and II and Spanish Literature II.
Teaching will take place through lectures, but with a focus on discussion and dialogue directly with the students, who will be able, during class, to formulate proposals for further study or debate. Students will be invited to prepare, either alone or in small groups, one of the critical essays, to be presented to the rest of the class. Such essays will be the object of ongoing evaluation.
The final course exam will be held in written form, in Spanish, and the evaluation will be expressed in thirtieths. For students taking the exam for 9 ECTS credits, the test will last 105 minutes and will be structured in 6/7 questions concerning the entire syllabus in order to verify the students' acquisition of the knowledge imparted within the course; one question will delve into the historical-literary context, two/three questions will focus on the content of the primary sources, and two/three questions will relate to the critical bibliography.
For students who have the exam worth 6 ECTS, the test will last 75 minutes and will be structured in 5 questions covering the entire syllabus in order to verify the students' acquisition of the concepts taught within the course; one question will delve into the historical literary context, two questions will focus on the content of primary sources, and two questions will relate to the critical bibliography.
We will evaluate: use of appropriate language, completeness of the knowledge, correct exposure, critical skills and elaborative skills, as well as mastery of the Spanish language.
Cervantes and the "Quijote" (6 credits); "Lazarillo de Tormes" and the beginning of the picaresque (3 credits). The course aims to address the figure of Cervantes and his work, paying particular attention to "Don Quijote." The work will be analyzed in relation to the literary tradition and the historical period contemporary to it, as well as the numerous critical interpretations of the Cervantine masterpiece over the centuries. Additionally, the foundational work of the Spanish picaresque, "Lazarillo de Tormes," will be analyzed in the historical and cultural context of the time.
