To provide students with the analytical tools to interpret the major transformations in global history from the 1930s to the present. Particular emphasis will be placed on the interaction between political change and economic dynamics in a global context.
Solid general knowledge of 20th-century history and basic familiarity with political and economic concepts. Ability to engage with scholarly texts in the field of historical and political analysis.
Lectures supported by visual and textual materials. Occasional guided discussion on case studies and historiographical debates.
Oral examination. Students will be assessed on the depth and breadth of their knowledge, clarity of exposition, and critical engagement with the historical processes studied.
The course explores key developments in contemporary world history, including the global impact of World War II, the Cold War, decolonization, postwar economic reconstruction, the crisis of the 1970s, the collapse of communism, and the rise of global capitalism. Special attention will be given to the emergence of new geopolitical and economic orders.
