Monica D’Agostini is Associate Professor of Ancient Greek History. She is the Principal Investigator of the PRIN 2022 project "Mediterranean Multipolarity and Roman Unipolarity. Power Competition and Collaboration in the Graeco-Roman Geopolitics (3rd–2nd century BCE)", which involves the universities of Bergamo, Turin and Verona. She is also the European Editor of the A-ranked academic journal The Ancient History Bulletin.
D'Agostini holds two Ph.D.s (Bologna 2013; UCSC 2018), and was a postdoctoral fellow at the McGill University (2013-14) and the Waterloo Institute for Hellenistic Studies, Ontario (2014; 2015). D’Agostini has been a doctoral fellow at The Library of Congress, Washington DC (2010), and was granted the CUC research fellowship (2011-2014). She obtained the Habilitation to Associate Professor of Ancient History (2020).
D’Agostini’s research focuses on political and military authority in Macedonia and Hellenistic Antiquity with forays into the History of modern political thought. She is the author of The Rise of Philip V. Kingship and Rule in the Hellenistic World (Alessandria: Edizioni dell’Orso, 2019) and Gaetano Filangieri and Benjamin Franklin: between the Italian Enlightenment and the US Constitution (Washington DC: Ambasciata d'Italia at Washington DC, 2011). She co-edited with Edward Anson and Frances Pownall's Affective Relationships and Personal Bonds in Hellenistic Antiquity (Oxford: Oxbow Books, 2020). She also pursues public engagement as the administrator of the Hellenistic Group.
