Curriculum Vitae
Giuliano Masiero is full professor of Economics at the University of Bergamo. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of York (UK), a doctorate in Economics from the University of Ancona, and the national scientific qualification to full professor (in Political economy, Economic policy, and Public economics).
He is currently teaching economics and health economics in undergraduate, graduate and doctoral courses, and collaborating with the University of Lugano (USI). Previously, he has worked in collaboration with the Centre for Health Economics and the Centre for Review and Dissemination (York), and the European Surveillance of Antimicrobial Consumption (Antwerp), and has conducted research and teaching at the University of Milan and the Catholic University in Rome. He has published several scientific papers in the main health economics and policy journals, also with the support of funding grants from the European Commission and the Swiss National Science Foundation (FNS).
The main research areas are economics and health, with a particular focus on policy aspects, through the application of econometric methods. Past research devoted considerable attention to the investigation of primary care markets and patient choice of practice, the economics of antibiotics and bacterial resistance, doctors' and patients' behavior, and efficiency in long term care. More recently, the main areas of interest moved to the use of antidepressant drugs and the link with mental health, the economic effects of earthquakes and the effects of air pollution and environmental shocks on health.
