VALTOLINA Amelia Giuseppina

Amelia Valtolina is Professor of German Literature in the Department of Humanities, Philosophy, and Communication at the University of Bergamo. She is the founder of SINALEFE. Permanent International Seminar on Contemporary Poetry, established in collaboration with A. Baldacci and C. Miglio. She served on the University’s Academic Senate from 2019 to 2021 and was appointed Full Professor following the National Scientific Qualification in 2018. She currently serves as academic coordinator of the Double Master’s Degree programme with the University of Warsaw. A specialist in klassische Moderne, her research focuses on contemporary German poetry and its constellations, with particular attention to the relationships between poetry and environment, poetry and philosophy, and poetry and the visual arts.
Since 2023, she has coordinated the research unit for two nationally funded projects, PRIN 2022 and PRIN 2022 PNRR. From 2026, she has been a member of the jury of the Deutsch-Italienischer Übersetzerpreis – Italian-German Prize for Literary Translation.
She co-directs, together with A. Baldacci and C. Miglio, the book series Sinalefe. Biblioteca di Poesia Contemporanea Europea (Le Lettere).
She has published extensively in Italian and German on twentieth- and twenty-first-century poetry and has edited Italian editions of works by I. Aichinger, G. Benn, W. Benjamin, Th. Fontane, R.M. Rilke, L. Andreas-Salomé, and Y. Tawada. Her monographs include Blu e poesia. Metamorfosi di un colore nella moderna lirica tedesca (2002; 2006), Parole con figura (2010), Il sogno della forma. Un’idea tedesca nel Novecento di Gottfried Benn (2016), and In absentia. Zur Poetik der Latenz in Rainer Maria Rilkes Dichtkunst (2021).
