Chair of Commission V/ISPRS (International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing), WG2 “Education and Outreach”.
Guest editor of Special Issues “Precision Farming: Innovations in Sustainable Crop Monitoring and Management” and “Deep Learning for Spectral and Spatial Hyper-spectral Image Classification” of the journal Remote Sensing; Special Issue “Digitalization and Metrology for Cultural Heritage” of the journal Measurement Digitalization.
Responsible for European projects, scientific director of national research project operating units, national and international workshops, and reviewer for numerous indexed international peer-reviewed journals, such as Journal of Earth Systems Science; Celestial Mechanics and Dynamical Astronomy; Journal of Geodesy; Studia Geophysica et Geodaetica; ISPRS International Journal of Geo-Information; ISPRS Congresses and Conferences; Survey Review; Surveys in Geophysics; Sustainability; Geographical Journal International.
Main research interests are: new approaches to studying the Earth's gravitational field and its anomalies; applications of digital photogrammetry; laser scanning and geographic information systems for cultural heritage; 3D modelling of archaeological and architectural sites; geomatics applications in risk analysis and emergency management; geomatics monitoring of structures and infrastructure; surveying and monitoring with integrated geomatics techniques; innovative geomatics techniques in precision agriculture; fuzzy logic and its applications in the environmental and urban fields; digital terrain models and urban landscape mapping, remote sensing. Author and co-author of numerous papers published in national and international journals and in international conference proceedings.
