Mara Brumana is senior Assistant Professor at the Department of Management, Information and Production Engineering at the University of Bergamo, Italy.
Since June 2014, she has been a member of the Center for Young and Family Enterprise (CYFE). Since October 2020, she has been a member of the WAVE Lab, a laboratory of Management Engineering in whose establishment she actively participated. Since March 2022, she has also been a member of the Rector staff for the design of the University's strategic plan 2022-2025.
Since 2021, she has been Affiliated Researcher at the Institute of Change Management and Management Development (CMMD), at the WU Vienna University of Economics and Business; and since 2022, she has been Affiliated Researcher at the Centre for Family Entrepreneurship and Ownership (CeFEO), at Jönköping International Business School.
She is currently a member of the Editorial Review Board of the Journal of Family Business Strategy and of the European Management Review as well as ad hoc reviewer for several international journals in her research field.
Mara’s research interests revolve around the understanding of how and why the embeddedness of firms, and of family firms in particular, in a social and institutional context shapes their decision-making process and behaviour. Entrepreneurial dynamism, growth, innovation, internationalization and change management are some of the phenomena observed mainly through qualitative inquiries with an inductive approach (i.e., longitudinal or multiple case studies), with active collaborations also on quantitative projects. Traditional primary sources such as interviews and observations are combined with secondary sources.
Mara has recently published in main management and entrepreneurship journals such as Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal, International Small Business Journal, Journal of Small Business Management, Journal of Family Business Strategy, and European Management Review.
